First the back story...
I wasn't always a superstar sales person making huge commissions. In fact, I was quite the opposite. In America at the restaurant with my friends, I used to order a cup of soup and a coffee and I ate the free crackers and bread because I couldn't afford a hamburger.
I regularly fell behind on my bills, and I searched my sofa for spare change just to feed myself. I was broke and going nowhere fast. My bank account was overdrawn and I was over $80,000 in debt.
I was stressed out, overwhelmed, and completely depressed. But I was determined to become a closer and get the big money that the top sales people in my company were making. I was working selling investments over the phone to strangers who didn't know my name, didn't know my company and had never invested in risky currency options before.
I knew it was possible to sell more and make money,
I just didn't know how to make it happen.
So I studied 12 of the best books on sales I could find. I read all 12 books in 6 weeks. My 3 page script doubled to 6 pages with an extra 10 page book of closes and objections handlers. I scripted every word painstakingly; I even scripted pauses and emphasis into what I would say. In a 6 page script I had used had over 40 different sales techniques used 220 times in that one script!
It took 6 weeks of selling nothing and studying all 12 books but on the seventh week something magical happened. I started to sell, Really sell. While always telling the Truth to my prospects. Learning sales gave me the power to earn more. My life changed dramatically, and the $2,000 a week paychecks were a nice change too.
Then I decide to sell high end interior design services. Selling Interior design had amazing commissions, I sold high priced products to well qualified prospects. but something happened. I was selling ok, better than I had in previous jobs but I was not selling with near the success when I had been selling investments over the phone.
Selling interior design, this was face to face selling. I couldn't use a script. There were just too many techniques to remember. The sales methods that I used to sell investments still worked but without a script to keep me on track I ended up like so many sales people, "Just Talking" and not really selling.
And for the longest time, nothing changed about my selling. I kept studying sales and I was getting better, but I was improving way too slowly.
It was only after years of studying sales and experimentation with NLP and Hypnosis, that I started to see real tangible results in my selling.
